PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
What is PCOS?
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a very common female condition. As a PCOS naturopath, educational website blogs have been written for females that are living with this condition.
It is a condition that can impact your whole body, and I meet with many women experiencing irregular periods and fertility issues, hormonal acne, weight gain or the inability to lose weight, abnormal hair loss on their scalp plus excessive facial & body hair growth.
These metabolic symptoms are the key consequences of this condition and can cause frustration and anxiety for the many women who experience them.
A conversation around PCOS and what is unique to you
For the majority of women that are suffering with PCOS, it can cause enormous distress especially when you have no idea of why this is happening to you. Fortunately, in most cases, holistic naturopathic support is very effective at helping women with PCOS balance hormones and improve symptoms.
The very first step however is the deep dive we do together so I can understand what is driving your specific PCOS type. Is it insulin resistance? Is it inflammation or adrenal health? Do genetics play a role? Is your diet playing a role? Is it the perfect storm of a number of these things? Once we understand and address the root cause, then a very thorough and detailed holistic treatment plan is developed with the goal of restoring healthy menstrual cycles and reducing areas of hormonal imbalance such as hair growth, hair loss, acne, weight, anxiety, daytime energy and more.
I’ve written an article you might be interested in, called A Conversation Around PCOS: Insights from a Sydney Naturopath.
Treating PCOS
As a degree qualified PCOS Naturopath, my treatment for you includes strategic advice on nutrition & lifestyle combined with clinically researched herbal medicines and therapeutic supplements that are tailored to your unique situation. Detailed & nurturing education plus helpful handouts are included as part of your PCOS treatment suggestion plan. I work with blood tests from your GP and will talk to you about potential specialised testing including hormones & insulin that I can order for you if needed.
PCOS is not simply a condition that may put you at risk for fertility challenges. It is also a condition that is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, mood disorders and conditions triggered by hormonal imbalance.
